In the previous post, we installed ESXi hypervisor on one host. A ESXi host can manage around 30-50 VMs, when it comes to a data center we will have some hundreds of servers, so we need many hosts to manage all the servers. Let us say around 10 hosts, it is not easy to manage all these hosts. So we use vCenter server to manage different data centers and different hosts.
We can install vCenter server in different ways. We can install it directly on top of physical server OS or we can also use vCenter server appliance file which can create a separate VM inside a host machine.
In this post, we are going through first method in which we install vCenter server on a Windows server machine... We can download it from the same url (using our host IP in browser).
I already downloaded and copied it to my Windows Server Desktop...
Click on autorun.exe...
Select vCenter simple install...
Since we are not using Active Directory, just click on OK...
This takes few minutes...
Accept the License agreement...
Minimum requirements for password 1 Upper case, 1 Special character and should be alphanumeric...
Installing local SQL server...
Assigning a IP....
HTTPs port, leave it with default value...
Installing vCenter sign on...
Few more steps...
Enter License key...
Microsoft SQL server...
Default ports, leave them to default values....
Select Inventory size as per the infrastructure....
Installing Orchestrator........vCenter Orchestrator is a tool offered by VMWARE to create workflows, that involve virtual infrastructure, helping to recover from a disaster, migrate VMs or pool of VM, create new virtual machines, resource pools and so on...
Click Finish to complete the vCenter Server installation...
vSphere client installed successfully...
Now let us take the login of vCenter server through vSphere...
Home screen of vCenter server...
